Ear wax serves a normal healthy function. It is your bodies natural way of cleaning dead skin cells and bacteria out of the ear canal. Occasionally, excess ear wax can cause a blockage and have to be removed, but this is rare. Under normal circumstances, you should never have to clean your ear wax. Using cotton swabs or other objects to remove ear wax can actually push it further into the ear canal and cause a blockage.
