Kapidex is the old name for dexlansoprazole. The FDA changed the name of this medication, used to treat GERD (also called acid reflux and heartburn) to Dexilant to prevent drug errors. There were two other medications, Casodex and Kadian, which sounded so much like Kapidex that the FDA was afraid that these medications might accidentally be given to patients instead of Kapidex.
