Bad breath, (also called halitosis) is not only a concern for you, but may affect how others interact with you. Dental problems are not the only causes of bad breath. Many ENT-related disorders can affect your breath odor.
ENT-Related Causes of Bad Breath
- Pharyngitis
- Ozena – atrophic rhinitis
- Laryngeal\Esophageal Cancer
- Sinusitis
- Rhinosinusitis
- Throat infections
- GERD
- Deviated nasal septum
- Tonsillitis
- Lodged foreign objects in the nose in children
Treatment of ENT-Related Bad Breath
Increasing oral hygiene in ENT-related bad breath will not resolve the problem. It may temporarily help mask the odor. However, unless the underlying cause is treated, the bad breath will not resolve.
