A study from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit shows that a substance found in grapes, resveratrol, may protect you from noise induced hearing loss. Hearing loss is common in Americans and most of us experience a decline in our ability to hear with age. Researchers gave rats resveratrol before exposing them to loud noises and found that the rats given resveratrol were less likely to suffer from noise induced hearing loss than rats who were not given resveratrol before exposure to the same noise. The substance may also protect against a decline in cognitive abilities. Scientists believe that the health benefits of resveratrol are related to its ability to regulate the body's inflammatory response.
