The State University of New York (SUNY) has outlined a comprehensive plan of action to best the current flu pandemic. Following the CDC's guidelines the University's strategy focuses on three major themes: prepare, educate, and respond. Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher has been quoted as saying, "Our first priority is to help keep students, faculty and staff healthy and safe." State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D. applauded the Universities efforts by saying that other educational institutions should follow their example in "maximizing the prevention of outbreaks and minimizing spread of illness in campus communities."
